Murrieta city officials and hundreds of residents gathered in Town Square Park Thursday at dusk for a memorial in remembrance of lives lost in the terrorist acts of Sept. 11, 2001.
Mayor Alan Long and City Council member Rick Gibbs addressed the audience before bagpipes played "Amazing Grace". Luminarias bearing the names of each of the 2,993 victims of the 9/11 tragedy lined the walkways and were illuminated as darkness arrived. A table was set up for guests to sign cards of remembrance.
