The Murrieta Police Department is asking for the public's help in being aware of suspicious activity after a string of vegetation fires started throughout the day on Sept. 19.
The first fire was reported near Los Alamos Road and Monroe Avenue at 11:12 hours a.m. involving a tree stump and tin foil. The fire spread to a 20-foot area. The second fire was reported off the southbound 215 Freeway next to Half Dome Court at 1:07 p.m. Several Eucalyptus trees caught on fire but they were quickly extinguished.
A third fire was reported about 500 meters south on the freeway at approximately 1:20 p.m. Murrieta Fire officials located what appeared to be a smoldering shoe box. The fourth fire was a small five-foot vegetation fire near the area where the first fire was reported at approximately 3:30 p.m. Officers walked the vegetation area spanning from Lincoln Avenue to Los Alamos Road with negative results.
