Two Murrieta men were arrested after a marijuana cultivation was discovered at a local residence, Murrieta Police announced today.

The discovery took place after City of Murrieta code enforcement officers responded to the 40300 block of Hannah Way in reference to a water leak saturating adjacent properties. Code enforcement officers saw a broken PVC pipe connected into the residence's side wall. The PVC pipe's location appeared consistent with illegal plumbing commonly seen in indoor residential marijuana "grows".

Code enforcement officers smelled a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the residence as they stood outside.

Murrieta police arrived on scene to contact the occupants. As the officers knocked on the door, two male Asians were seen running from the house into the back yard. The males then jumped over the wood fence and fled the area. The males were located a short time later by officers in the adjacent businesses.

A search warrant was drafted by a patrol officer and signed by a judge for the residence. A search of the residence resulted in the discovery of a very large complex indoor marijuana cultivation. Approximately 950 marijuana plants were located. Thirteen pounds of processed marijuana "buds" were recovered as well as $1,400.

Zi Ye Wu, 38, and Wei Ming Li, 30, were arrested and booked at the Southwest Detention Center.
