A man accused of threatening Murrieta City Council candidate Jonathan Ingram (left) was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of making terrorist threats and harassment by telephone.

Jeffrey Leroy Benson, 29, was released on $20,000 bail, according to jail and police records.

A spokesperson for the Murrieta Police Department said Wednesday no other details would be made public at this time because it's an open investigation. Ingram said during a candidates forum on Monday that threatening calls had been made to his home.

Reached by phone on Wednesday, Ingram said he had never met Benson and had no further comment on the case at this time. It is unclear whether the threats are related to Ingram's candidacy for city council.
