The city of Murrieta will play host to a week's worth of events to honor America's veterans.

On Nov. 8, Murrieta and the Murrieta Rotary Club will begin a week-long event by honoring veterans, as well as first responders, at their annual Field of Honor. Town Square Park will have over 2,000 flags displayed.

Chalk art, a candlelight vigil, and a celebration of the Marine Corps' 239th birthday will take place throughout the week.

Town Square Park is located in between the Murrieta City Hall and the Murrieta Public Library.

The city's 12th Annual Veteran Day Parade will kick off from Historic Downtown Murrieta. It starts at 10 a.m. on Nov. 11. The parade route is expected to be busy, so it's best to show up early to grab a spot to see the action.

This year's grand marshal is Cpl. Jon Schumacher of the United States Marine Corps. While serving in Afghanistan in 2011, he lost his left hand and both legs when he stepped on an improvised explosive device.

Closing out the week, on Nov. 15, the new Patriots Ball will take place at the Murrieta Community Center, located at 41810 Juniper St.

The event is open to the public. Tickets are $65 and can be ordered at  www.murrietafieldofhonor.com. Proceeds will support the completion of the Murrieta Through Time history monuments in Town Square Park, as well as various other community and international service projects.
