Each week of the school year, Murrieta 24/7 honors top student-athletes at Murrieta Valley High School. The coach of each varsity sport is allowed to select one athlete based on the previous week's performances or on potential shown by the athlete. Here are this week's Murrieta Valley High School Athletes of the Week:

Sophomore Karina Baquero has made great improvement for the girls cross-country team and freshman Jack Cassatt has made an immediate impact for the boys cross-country team, said coach Fabrice Vuillemey.

"Karina is a sophomore with a lot of determination," Vuillemey said. "She had a wonderful race at the Inland Empire Challenge, taking four minutes off her last year's time. Jack is having a great season and his progresses are absolutely amazing."

McKenna Miller
led the girls volleyball team in kills in two victories last week vs. Murrieta Mesa and Vista Murrieta.

Senior defender Decker Dempsey was selected for his play with the boys water polo team, which is a major contender for the Southwestern League title. Golfer Lindsey Kuss had two great rounds in matches against Murrieta Mesa and Vista Murrieta.

These athletes will be eligible for selection as Murrieta Valley High School's Athletes of the Month, which will be announced the first week of November.
