An open letter from Ruthanne Taylor Berger, candidate for Murrieta City Council:

I am from a tight-knit military family where my father and brothers were career military officers. The military life took our family all over the world. After I married Tom in 1987, we moved around in our careers until we moved to Murrieta and made it our home. We have a deep connection with the community and we will always call it home.

I strongly believe that Murrieta has a bright future full of potential to grow economically. As your next councilwoman, I will be committed to making that growth a positive reality. I want to preserve Murrieta’s quality of life now and for the future. I am confident that my involvement and passion for this community will only benefit the next phase for our wonderful city.

Tom and I participated in the City’s incorporation process. I served on the first Traffic and Transportation Commission and am currently serving a second term on the Planning Commission as Chairman. As a Planning Commissioner, I am proud of the teamwork and projects we have recommended to the City Council - from new residential and assisted living, to hotels now under construction, to the Golden Triangle project.

Planning Commission is more than just that. We not only review the Capital Improvement Program, but are required to participate in ethics training and workshops, as well as conduct the City’s business in accordance with open meeting law.

I have over 30 years of private and public sector experience in community planning, transportation funding and finance, and am well qualified to be part of the City Council. I have extensive experience in managing multi-million dollar budgets and programs. I believe in a balanced budget and the necessity of practicing fiscal responsibility. I have a unique set of skills and I intend to use those skills to protect our quality of life while working to build partnerships with the business community.

Public Safety: I have been endorsed by the Murrieta Police Officers Association. They recognize that I will support and work to fund public safety programs, procure equipment, and provide the public safety personnel in order to keep Murrieta one of the safest cities in the United States.

Infrastructure:
I have delivered $35 million in transportation improvements for the citizens of Murrieta, including projects such as the interchanges at I-215/Los Alamos and I-215/Clinton Keith Road. The funding comes from a transportation financing program developed under my leadership, which ensures that new development pays its fair share to build new roads. My experience in working with regional and state transportation agencies will also ensure that Murrieta receives its fair share of available funding to construct roads, bridges, and parks.

Job Creation: Murrieta’s future lies in creating new local jobs that will build and strengthen our local economy. I will use my experience to foster an environment that attracts and retains businesses to create local jobs to ensure that the City's processes are practical, efficient and minimize bureaucratic red tape.

I ask for your vote on Nov. 4.
