A Temecula woman and Winchester man were hospitalized with multiple injuries Monday night after the vehicles they were driving were involved in a head-on collision in Temecula, according to a CHP report.

Mary Louise Trujillo, 48, of Temecula sustained a tibia-fibula fracture as well as a femur fracture in both legs. Israel Carino Carbajal, 21, of Winchester suffered a fractured wrist and chest trauma. Both parties were transported to Inland Valley Regional Medical Center.

According to the CHP, the accident occurred at 8:30 p.m. on Anza Road just north of Los Nogales Road. Carbajal was driving a 2012 Chrysler 200 northbound on Anza Road in the southbound lane at a high rate of speed, the report said. Trujillo was driving a 2012 Honda Civic southbound on Auza Road at 40 to 45 mph. She observed Carbajal approaching her on the wrong side of the road and attempted to veer out of the way but was unable to avoid a head-on collision.

The collision is under investigation. Carbajal is suspected of DUI, according to the CHP report.
