A Temecula motorcycle officer attempting to catch up to a speeding vehicle was struck by a heavy-duty Chevy utility truck.

On Jan. 7, at 9 a.m., the officer who was traveling west on Ynez Road and approaching La Paz Road, was struck by the utility truck as it was attempting to make a U-turn in front of the motorcycle. The truck was stopped along the right roadway edge, facing west, just ahead of the officer, when it attempted to make the turn.

The motorcycle officer complained of pain to his right leg and was transported by a fellow officer to a local hospital for treatment of a non-life threatening injury, according to the police report.

The driver of the utility truck was not injured.

The California Highway Patrol assumed the collision investigation while traffic was diverted around the partially close roadway for approximately two hours.

Anyone with information about this collision is encouraged to contact the Temecula Police at (951) 696-3000, or the California Highway Patrol at (951) 506-2000.
