Each week, Murrieta 24/7 honors top student-athletes at Murrieta Mesa High School. The coach of each varsity sport is allowed to select one athlete based on the previous week's performances or on potential shown by the athlete. Here are this week's Murrieta Mesa High School Athletes of the Week:

Water polo player Carissa Waters scored the winning goal against Great Oak last week with 17 seconds left in the game. Her coach, Audra Woods, says she has "become an extreme threat offensively."

Kiersta Tanner is averaging 8 points and 4 rebounds per game for the girls basketball team. "Kiersta is one of our senior captains and was a great leader this last week," said her coach, Kyle Rouse. "When we were looking for someone to step up, she was right there doing her job and leading her teammates."

Jacob Deloa "has shown great commitment to his team," said the boys soccer coach, Robert Bokma. "He continuously encourages his teammates to get better and plays any position where he is needed. His dedication to the team is inspirational for the younger players for Mesa."

James Sweetsir of the Rams' wrestling team pinned his opponent in just 12 seconds in Mesa'a 40-32 win over Great Oak last week.

Josh Rennick is a repeat honoree from last week for his consistent play for the boys basketball team. Annie Blackwood is a standout for the girls soccer team, which is 15-3 overall.

These athletes will be eligible for selection as Murrieta Mesa High School's Athletes of the Month, which will be announced next week.
