Cyclists prepare to complete another lap in a women's Grand Prix race Saturday at the Tour de Murrieta.

Hundreds of cyclists from Murrieta and outlying areas weathered the heat and spun their wheels for fun and prize money Saturday on the second day of the three-day Tour de Murrieta.

Cyclists took part in a series of Grand Prix races on a one-mile lap track through and around Town Square Park. The number of laps was based on skill level and various cash and prizes were awarded for race winning and lap leaders.

The event, hosted by the Stage 2 Cycling Club and the City of Murrieta, drew competitors from cycling clubs throughout Southern California, as well as individuals from Murrieta who chose to compete. At noon, a series of kids races sponsored by Pacific Western Bank were held.

Competition continues today with circuit races over a 3.5-mile course. The start and finish line is near Washington Avenue and Ivy Street. For more information, visit this website.
