Estelle Jaurequi has announced she will retire as principal of Murrieta Elementary School at the end of the school year after 25 years with the district.

"Ms. Jaurequi has been an outstanding leader for Murrieta for many years," said Pat Kelley, superintendent of the Murrieta Valley Unified School District. "Her steady and caring style, coupled with a focus on student learning, has helped Murrieta Elementary achieve California Distinguished School status. She will be greatly missed."

Jaurequi began her teaching career in the Los Angeles area before joining Murrieta Elementary as a teacher in 1990. She served as a Bilingual/English Language Development Coordinator before moving to Shivela Middle School as assistant principal, then to Buchanan Elementary in the same role. She has been principal at Murrieta Elementary for the last nine years.

"My years here at Murrieta Elementary have truly been amazing," Jaurequi said. "I have appreciated the trust and support of the parents and the determination, perseverance and hard work of the students. Murrieta Elementary will always hold a special place in my heart."

The district will conduct a search for a new principal that includes input from a committee comprised of parents, faculty and staff.
