A Temecula man died Wednesday, March 18 in a single-vehicle accident on Interstate 15, the California Highway Patrol reported today.

According to a CHP news release, Kenneth Dean, 21, was driving a 2003 Chevy S-10 pickup truck southbound on the I-15 just north of California Oaks Road at 11:37 p.m. Traveling at an estimated 70 mph, the vehicle approached an SUV and for an unknown reason, swerved to the right.

The pickup traveled off the west roadway edge of the freeway and began overturning. The truck caught on fire but witnesses were able to extricate Dean from the vehicle. He was transported to Inland Valley Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead due to major head trauma.

CHP is conducting the traffic collision investigation.
