A Murrieta man was taken into custody after a confrontation with a SWAT team on Friday, the Murrieta Police Department announced in a news release today.

Zbigniew "Bob" Uchman, 67, was arrested on suspicion of willful discharge of a firearm at a dwelling and delay or obstructing law enforcement.

Officers responded to the 24300 block of Echo Ridge Drive regarding a disturbance at 8:05 p.m. According to police, it was determined that two neighbors were arguing loudly in the street. The suspect threatened to retrieve a gun to resolve the dispute and entered his home.

Shortly after knocking on the front door, officers heard gunfire from inside the residence. They took cover positions and set containment on the residence. Uchman was believed to be in the residence alone and it was reported to officers he was under the influence of alcohol, according to the news release.

Uchman was ordered out of the house, but refused to comply. The situation was deemed to be an armed barricaded suspect and the Murrieta / Hemet Regional SWAT Team was called in to handle the incident at 9:11 p.m.

With the use of SWAT negotiators, Uchman surrendered at 1:30 a.m. without incident.
