Each week, Murrieta 24/7 honors top student-athletes at Murrieta Mesa High School. The coach of each varsity sport is allowed to select one athlete based on the previous week's performances or on potential shown by the athlete. Here are this week's Murrieta Mesa High School Athletes of the Week:

Tama Finau finished second in the discus in the Southwestern League track and field finals and is one of the top throwers in the CIF ranks. He will compete in the CIF prelims Saturday in Moorpark.

Celine Dailey of the girls track team will also compete in Saturday's CIF prelims. She ran her best race of the year to finish third in the 100-meter hurdles in league finals.

Junior outfielder and pitcher Austen Salcedo is hitting .311 and is 2-1 on the mound for the Rams baseball team.

Freshman softball player Karina Romero has improved steadily at catcher and first base. She has played solid defense and has had quality at-bats, according to her coach.

Derek D'Aquino and Ryan Beal were honored for their accomplishments with the boys and girls lacrosse teams, respectively.

These athletes will be eligible for selection as Murrieta Mesa High School's Athletes of the Month, which will be announced the first week of June. Anyone wishing to order a glossy print of this article with photo may do so by emailing murrieta247info@gmail.com.
