Longtime Murrieta resident Gary Allen was honored by the Murrieta City Council last week for his service to the community at several levels. Allen received a proclamation from the City and a plaque from Murrieta Valley Cemetery District officials in recognition of his work for that organization.

Allen, who is retiring, is a former member of the Murrieta County Water District Board, the Murrieta Historical Preservation Committee, and the Murrieta Valley Cemetery District. He also served as general manager of Laurel Cemetery for five years.

"The reason Murrieta is such a great community is individuals like Gary," said Connie McConnell, board chair of the Murrieta Valley Cemetery District. "He worked hard on redistricting the boundaries so local residents could be buried in Murrieta."

Kassen Klein, a member of the cemetery district who is involved in many other local organizations, participated in the presentation.

"The water district went through some very trying times," Klein said to Allen. "I appreciate your contributions to the community."
