Three local high school seniors who were members of their school's golf team were awarded scholarships by the Murrieta Colony Men's Golf Club during a luncheon held last Wednesday, June 17.

Juliana Hanson of Murrieta Mesa High and Alexis Marshall and Steven Oakes of Vista Murrieta High received $750 scholarships to use for expenses in college. Hanson will be attending Loyola Marymount University, Marshall will attend Cal State Monterey Bay, and Oakes will attend Cal State San Marcos.

Murrieta Valley High School was not included because it did not have seniors on its golf teams this year.

This award recognizes senior golfers from the men's and women's teams from each high school in the district. These recipients are nominated by their respective schools and have demonstrated academic and athletic excellence during their high school years. Award recipients and their high school coaches were invited to play in a tournament as guests of the Men's Club.

The Colony Men's Golf Club raises funds through a number of events during the year in an effort to help outstanding senior student/athletes in the community. This year's awards were presented by Billy Brown, tournament director, and Dennis Murphy, president of the Colony Men's Golf Club.
