A 70-year-old Murrieta man was arrested after police said he shot at the driver of a vehicle in front of his residence during an argument on Monday, July 20.

Kenneth Herman Groth was booked at Southwest Detention Center on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and negligent discharge of a firearm. The driver of the vehicle Groth allegedly shot has not been charged.

According to a report from the Murrieta Police Department, officers responded to the report of gunshots fired in the area of Symphony Park Lane and Barolo Court. They conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle determined to be the one shot at by the suspect. At the same time, dispatch received a call from a resident in the 24600 block of Barolo Court, claiming he had fired his handgun at a subject who had threatened him.

After talking to the resident who made the call, officers determined the driver of the vehicle had called a family member of the resident and made threats toward him. When the vehicle arrived at the Barolo Court residence, the resident allegedly fired a single gunshot that struck the vehicle. The driver was not injured and the handgun used was recovered by officers.
