Quincy Wimbish, who rushed for 1,100 yards last season, is back to lead the Murrieta Valley offense.

Murrieta Valley High School opens its 2015 football season with a 7 p.m. game at Temescal Canyon High in Lake Elsinore on Friday, Aug. 28.

The Nighthawks are out to improve on last year's 4-6 overall record. They just might have the offensive firepower to do it.

Second-year coach George Wilson welcomes back one of the area's top running backs in senior Quincy Wimbish, who rushed for 1,100 yards and 9 touchdowns last season. Also returning are wide receivers Chase Collins (26 catches, 364 yards) and Maurice Bell (31 catches, 199 yards).

MVHS will play its home opener against Citrus Hill on Friday, Sept. 4.

The only other Murrieta high school team in action tonight is Murrieta Mesa, which opens its season in Hawaii against St. Francis High of Honolulu. Fans can watch that game via live streaming on the Internet at this website.

Vista Murrieta, last year's Southwestern League champion and CIF finalist, opens its season Sept. 4 at home against Ballard High of Seattle.
