Members of the Orange 11u team representing Murrieta Valley Pony Baseball were honored at the Aug. 18 Murrieta City Council meeting for winning the Bronco Division World Series Aug. 2 in Virginia.

Mayor Harry Ramos presented certificates of recognition to the players and coaches. Murrieta Orange beat all-star teams from Puerto Rico and Mexico on the final day of the tournament to win the championship. It marked the first time a sports team from Murrieta has won a World Series.

"How phenomenal it is to have a Murrieta sports team this good," said mayor pro tem Randon Lane. "This takes hours of practice and hard work. And it's not just the kids, it's the parents who support them. I can't tell you how proud I am of them as a member of this community."

Team members were also presented certificates from a representative of Senator Jeff Stone's office.
