A preliminary hearing involving Murrieta City Council member and former mayor Alan Long originally scheduled for Friday, Sept. 11 has been postponed until Oct. 23, according to John Hall of the District Attorney's Office.

The postponement was granted because a new prosecutor has taken over the case against Long, who was mayor of Murrieta when a truck he was driving rear-ended a vehicle with four teenage girls as they waited to make a left turn off Washington Avenue a few blocks from Murrieta Valley High School, according to a police report. A field sobriety test was administered on site and it was determined that Long was impaired by alcohol.

Four days after his arrest, Long resigned as mayor of Murrieta (photo above left). However, he ran for re-election to the city council and won his seat back on Nov. 4. Long is charged with felony DUI.
