A Lake Elsinore man was arrested on suspicion of theft and probation violation after attempting to sell tools he allegedly stole from the back of a truck parked at the Home Depot in Murrieta, according to police.

Joshua Grimes, 32, was booked into Southwest Jail Nov. 20 for probation violation, theft and possession of stolen property. Detectives from the Murrieta Police Department took him into custody after setting up a meeting to purchase tools Grimes had allegedly advertised on social media.

A Home Depot customer reported to police that tools were stolen from his truck in the parking lot of the Home Depot at 25100 Madison Ave. while he was shopping inside. Several hours later, the victim saw his tools being advertised for sale online. He contacted police, who arranged the meeting with the suspect in Perris.

At the meeting, Grimes was found in possession of the stolen tools. Grimes was found to be a Post Community Supervised Release (PRCS) probationer for past weapons and stolen property cases. According to police, he is a product of AB109 -- 2011 legislation that allows offenders of less serious felonies to remain out of custody on probation.
