The Murrieta Valley High School Band competes at the Lester Oaks Field Tournament Nov. 7.

Murrieta Valley High School’s Band and Color Guard, the Crimson Cadets, has placed high in several recent competitions.

In the 22nd Annual Irvine Invitational Field Tournament on Oct.. 31, the color guard placed third under the direction of Kandice Wiggs and Khristinna Jovel. The band placed second under the direction of Neil Anderson, director of instrumental music for Murrieta Valley High School. Their percussion unit placed third under the direction of Erasmo Rodriguez, Patrick Malone, and Jonathan Cannon.

The units competed again Nov. 7 at the Lester Oaks Field Tournament at Ramona High School in Riverside. The color guard placed first in class, the band placed second in class, and the percussion unit placed second overall. In addition, the band earned the Music Effects Sweepstakes Award.

The band and color guard will compete again at Ramona High on Saturday. With another good performance, they will qualify for the championships on Nov. 21. Last year, they placed third in the championships.
