A teacher at Murrieta Valley High School is under investigation for alleged inappropriate conduct with a student and has been placed on administrative leave, according to a news release from the Murrieta Valley Unified School District office today.

According to the statement, school principal Eric Mooney notified parents of MVHS students this afternoon that school officials were informed of the investigation on Monday. The teacher, identified as Shannon Fosgett, will be out of the classroom indefinitely pending the outcome of the investigation. According to district officials, she began working as a substitute in the district in 2006 and was hired to teach at MVHS in 2014.

"This is a very unfortunate and disappointing situation and we are working closely with the Murrieta Police Department on their ongoing investigation," wrote Karen Parris, public information officer for the district, in an email. "At this time the investigation is ongoing and no conclusions have been reached.

"As with every district employee, all the appropriate background checks were conducted prior to her being hired."
