Two teenage boys were arrested after police arrived to break up a fight near a business in Murrieta Friday afternoon, police reported.

Murrieta Police officers responded at 12:20 p.m. to an area near the El Ranchito Taco Shop at 23811 Washington Ave. to a report of 24-30 subjects gathered and appearing ready to fight. Some subjects had their phones ready to record the fight, according to a news release.

Detectives already in the area responded and attempted to disperse the crowd. During that time, a 17-year-old male became confrontational with detectives. He disobeyed orders and attempted to punch the detective, then ran into an adjacent parking lot. The suspect, identified as being from Wildomar, was apprehended and arrested for assault on a police officer and delaying a police officer.

While detectives were trying to handcuff the first subject, a 17-year-old Murrieta resident intervened and was arrested for delaying and resisting the duties of a peace officer.

Subsequent interviews indicated the fight was over a dispute between a marijuana dealer and a subject who owed money to the dealer from a past sale, police said. Police have received complaints of marijuana sales in that shopping center previously, including sales to juveniles and by juveniles.

One detective received an injury to his hand during the altercation. He was treated at an area hospital and was released.
