The long-awaited opening of Barons Market in Murrieta Wednesday was marked by a grand opening, a ribbon cutting with local dignitaries and large crowds ready to enjoy the market's organic, natural and specialty foods.

The official grand opening took place at 8 a.m., but by late afternoon the market was still crowded with customers enjoying free samples and checking out the variety of fresh foods and specialty items. Similar in inventory to the popular Trader Joe's markets, Barons has become very successful with its five previous locations.

"As a family-owned market with good food at good prices, Barons Market’s community-centered approach naturally fits with the tight-knit neighborhood of Murrieta," said Rachel Shemirani, vice president of marketing and daughter of Barons Market founder, Joe Shemirani, on the company website. "This community has a unique culture that requires a special type of grocery store – one that not only opens a location in the neighborhood but integrates into the core of what makes it special."

The store, located at 40545 California Oaks Road, includes a wide selection of fresh produce and other organic food items; a soup bar, salad bar and antipasto bar; more than 500 gluten-free items; and over 400 microbrews.
