Each week, Murrieta 24/7 honors top student-athletes at Murrieta Valley High School. The coach of each varsity sport is allowed to select one athlete based on the previous week's performances or on potential shown by the athlete. Here are the Murrieta Valley High School honorees:

Senior Leslie Cruz has provided outstanding defense for the the MVHS girls basketball team and has been an inspiration to her teammates, said her coach, Tessa Mulinix.

"Leslie has been very consistent for the Murrieta Valley Nighthawks," Mullinix said. "At the end of every game, Leslie seems to always be getting recognized for her hard work and phenomenal defense. She held star players to minimal points during the Nighthawks Classic tournament and always gives at least 110 percent. She has done very well for us and has recently been brought up to be a co-team captain based off of her work ethic, leadership skills and work ethic. She is a good role model for her teammates."

Wrestler Jose Herrera took first place and was the upper weight MVP at the Lakeside Rumble Tournament with four pins. His performance at 195 pounds was recognized among all wrestlers in the 48-team tournament.

"Jose wrestled at a very high level and earned upper weight MVP, dominating the competition," said his coach, Dan Kingman.
