Each week, Murrieta 24/7 honors top student-athletes at Murrieta Valley High School. The coach of each varsity sport is allowed to select one athlete based on the previous week's performances or on potential shown by the athlete. Here are the Murrieta Valley High School honorees:

Senior Tara Prentice has performed well for the girls water polo team and has committed to UCLA. She helped the team finish third in the America's Finest City Tournament last week.

Senior center Leilani Adams continues to display a strong work ethic for the girls basketball team, is 2-3 in league play. "She rebounded when others were struggling and she never gave up," said her coach, Tessa Mullinix. "Leilani is someone who truly wants to get better and the time and work she is putting in is paying off for her."

Senior midfielder Billy Napier "really contributed with a lot of hustle and pride this week," said boys soccer coach Matt Stratton.

Justin Barron earned a pin fall in a league dual wrestling match against Chaparral last week. He also placed third in a 24-team tournament at Laguna Hills High School on Saturday.

Alexus Hanserd "had a fantastic week in her defensive efforts on the field," said girls soccer coach Shane Ebert. "Alexus’ tremendous work rate and intelligent play kept us in both of our games. She is a rock on our team."

These athletes are eligible for the January Athlete of the Month award. Anyone wishing to order a glossy print of this article with photo may do so by emailing murrieta247info@gmail.com.
