Ashley Lybbert scored the winning goal with less than a minute remaining Tuesday as Murrieta Mesa High School scored a 14-13 victory over visiting Lakewood in a wild-card game of the CIF-SS Division 2 girls water polo playoffs.

Lybbert's goal (above photo) gave the Rams a 14-12 lead, which was enough cushion for the victory even though Lakewood scored one more time in the final seconds. The win propelled Mesa into a first-round game at second-seeded El Toro on Thursday.

The Rams improved their record to 22-6 overall. Kate Fox (below) scored five goals for the winners.
