A Murrieta man was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of having a sexual relationship with a girl under the age of 15, police said today.

Stephen Jackson, 22, is accused of having a relationship with the female juvenile in December and January. According to a Murrieta Police Department news release, the relationship was discovered by the victim's parents when they reviewed an app on her cell phone.

The girl and the suspect communicated through the KIK app, which stores photos and messages within the app only. They do not show up under the phone's normal text messages and there is no phone record of such communication, police said.

Jackson was booked at Southwest Jail on the following charges:

-- Sexual penetration with a foreign object with a victim under the age of 16;

-- Oral copulation with a victim under 16;

-- Communication with a minor to commit oral copulation;

-- Annoying or molesting a minor;

-- Contributing to the delinquency of a minor;

-- Furnishing alcohol to a minor.

"Had the parents not taken the time to inspect the victim's phone and this app specifically, these crimes may have never come to light," wrote Sgt. Phil Gomez in the news release.
