Each week, Murrieta 24/7 honors top student-athletes at Murrieta Mesa High School. The coach of each varsity sport is allowed to select one athlete based on the previous week's performances or on potential shown by the athlete. Here are this week's Murrieta Mesa honorees:

Sophomore Taylor Perales is captain of the boys soccer team in his second varsity season. He has received high praise from his coach, Robert Bokma.

"Taylor is a excellent leader," Bokma said. "He leads by example and demonstrates commitment to the team through hard work and dedication. Taylor is one of the top players of our team and his energy continues to help the team play better. His 'never give up' attitude has kept the team in several games and helped get the team to have the most wins in one season, during league, in the history of Mesa."

Girls soccer coach Mark Vogel had similar things to say about Samantha Kaye-Toral.

"Her tireless effort and desire to win makes her an incredibly valuable player on our team," said Voegl. "She brings a positive, team-first attitude to every game. This past week she continued with her consistently strong performances, creating scoring chances and supporting her teammates defensively."

Senior forward Justin Little scored a career-high 17 points, making 7 of 13 shots against Vista Murrieta last week. He also had 12 rebounds for the boys basketball team.

Sophomore Donielle Hutchinson hadn't played or practiced for weeks after coming off a rotator cuff injury, but she came back to play a key role against Vista Murrieta last week. She also is a leader in practice, said her coach, Kyle Rouse.

"Her work ethic and energy she carries everyday in practice and games is something we are very blessed to have," Rouse said. "She continues to guard the opponent's best players and makes their lives usually very difficult because of her defensive aggression. We are very excited about Donielle and happy she is only a sophomore as well!"

These athletes will be eligible for selection as Murrieta Mesa's February Athletes of the Month. Anyone wishing to order a glossy print of this article with photo may do so by emailing murrieta247info@gmail.com.
