Each week, Murrieta 24/7 honors top student-athletes at Murrieta Mesa High School. The coach of each varsity sport is allowed to select one athlete based on the previous week's performances or on potential shown by the athlete. Here are this week's Murrieta Mesa honorees:

Praise Madeukwe recently completed a standout season with the boys soccer team, earning recognition from his coach, Robert Bokma.

"Praise has been with Mesa soccer for three years now," Bokma said. "Praise is an incredibly skilled player who adds so much to the soccer team. He has grown while being part of the program to an outstanding young man. He has matured and become a player who wants to be a leader for the team. His work ethic has changed over the years to where he exceeds what is asked of him. He has played in different positions due to the needs of the team and has strengthened us in the process."

Billy Beringer took second place at 128 pounds in the Southwestern League wrestling finals last week.

Tristine Ciling recently completed a standout season for the girls basketball team, said her coach, Kyle Rouse.

"Tristine had a great week last week in practice and our two last games," Rouse said. "She was our leader in steals, hustle points, and in one game in points. She has been very consistent and her energy and attitude were great as well. In the game against Chaparral, she also caused one of their best players to struggle and have one of her worst games of the season to help keep us in the game. We look forward to Tristine next year, as she is only a junior. She finished the season strong and with the right attitude."

Annie Blackwood drew high praise from coach Mark Vogel for her performance with the girls soccer team.

"She was asked to play an attacking position for our final two games," Vogel said. "She responded very well by causing the other team's defense all types of problems. From becoming a target player with size and strength, to taking defenders on 1 on 1, she changed our attack and proved to be a very dangerous striker. Through her leadership and willingness to do whatever it takes, Annie put us in the position to compete and have some success."

These athletes will be eligible for selection as Murrieta Mesa's February Athletes of the Month. Anyone wishing to order a glossy print of this article with photo may do so by emailing murrieta247info@gmail.com.
