Each week, Murrieta 24/7 honors top student-athletes at Murrieta Valley High School. The coach of each varsity sport is allowed to select one athlete based on the previous week's performances or on potential shown by the athlete. Here are the Murrieta Valley High School honorees:

Senior water polo player Delayne Lynton has committed to UC Irvine on the basis of her standout career at MVHS. She was the 2015 Southwestern League MVP and has earned first-team All-CIF and All-America honors. Lynton helped her team to a seventh-place finish at the SoCal Championships in Irvine last week -- the team's highest finish ever in the tournament. The Nighthawks are 11-5 overall as they tune up for the upcoming CIF playoffs.

Kiri Schell became the first MVHS wrestler to qualify for the CIF Girls Masters meet. She placed sixth and advanced to the state meet qualifying tournament.

Sophomore forward Theresa Davis has made great strides for the girls basketball team, says her coach, Tessa Mullinix. "Theresa is someone who comes day in and day out ready to work," Mullinix said. "She gives 110 percent each practice and pushes her teammates to work harder and do better. Theresa is a student of the game and strives each day to do better than her last."

Senior Luke Ekstrom has helped anchor the defense for the boys soccer team. Sierra Crawford has played a key role for the girls soccer team as well.

These athletes are eligible for the February Athlete of the Month award. Anyone wishing to order a glossy print of this article with photo may do so by emailing murrieta247info@gmail.com.
