Vista Murrieta High defenders move in as goalkeeper Kendra Johnston gets ready to make a save in Thursday's water polo match.

Vista Murrieta High School showed off its offensive firepower in its CIF-SS Division 2 girls water polo playoff game Thursday, scoring a 17-11 victory over Montebello.

Amira Van Buren and Chloe Robinson scored five goals each for Vista Murrieta (22-8), which will play at Los Osos (Rancho Cucamonga) in the quarterfinals Saturday at 5 p.m. Goalkeeper Kendra Johnston made 11 saves for the Broncos.

Meanwhile, top-seeded Murrieta Valley cruised to an 18-4 win over visiting Thousand Oaks in another Division 2 game. The Nighthawks improved their season record to 23-7 in earning a quarterfinal match-up at Dana Hills on the road Saturday.

The third local girls water polo team to make the playoffs, Murrieta Mesa, suffered a 24-2 loss to second-seeded El Toro.
