A SIG alert was in effect for about an hour but there were no injuries this afternoon after a truck dropped a 47,000-pound concrete block on the southbound lanes of Interstate 15 in Temecula.

Steve Gumienny, 37, was driving a Peterbuilt tractor-trailer in the No. 4 lane at approximately 55 mph when his vehicle blew a tire just north of the Winchester Road off-ramp about 1:35 p.m., according to a California Highway Patrol news release. He lost control of the truck and began to travel across the other lanes. When the flatbed trailer buckled, the concrete block fell on the freeway, blocking the No. 2 and 3 lanes.

CHP responded to the scene and coordinated traffic control. Cal Trans used a skip loader to move the concrete block to the right shoulder. All lanes were re-opened at 2:43 p.m. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
