Each week, Murrieta 24/7 honors top student-athletes at Murrieta Mesa High School. The coach of each varsity sport is allowed to select one athlete based on the previous week's performances or on potential shown by the athlete. Here are this week's Murrieta Mesa honorees:

Josh Eberhart of the boys track team triple jumped 43-6 to win the event at the Palomino Relays. His jump was a personal record by three feet.

Swimmer Jacob Edwards improved his times in the 200 IM and 100 butterfly last week. "What he has done more for the team is, he has stepped up as a team captain and is leading the team each week in practices and meets," said his coach, Jennifer Beech.

Emily Hopkins of the girls lacrosse team has more than 25 goals in the team's first five games. She scored seven goals against Chaparral in the team's first league win, setting a school record. Her play has been a big factor in the team's 4-1 record. "Her speed is unbelievable and her aggressiveness is unstoppable," said her coach, Molly Sovacool.

Jacob Ray of the boys lacrosse team is winning 80 percent of his faceoffs and is averaging 12 ground balls each game. The Nighthawks are 5-1.

Tennis player Chris Deddeh won 15 of his first 21 games this season. He has swept four of the seven sets played so far.
