A Lake Elsinore man found in violation of parole was arrested on charges including petty theft and resisting an officer after a confrontation in Murrieta on Tuesday.

Ben Douglass, 39, was taken into custody about 1 a.m. Tuesday after a Murrieta Police Department officer tried to detain him in front of a 7-Eleven store on California Oaks Road. According to a news release, the suspect refused to follow the officer's direction and fled on foot.

A foot pursuit ended in the traffic lanes of California Oaks Road, where the suspect again refused to comply and was taken into custody after a Taser was used. The officer and suspect sustained minor injuries during the altercation.

A background check revealed Douglass has a criminal history for narcotics and theft. He also was wanted on a no-bail felony warrant for assault and for probation violation. He was booked at Southwest Jail.
