Murrieta police arrested two men on multiple charges Sunday after they were discovered in a car that was reported stolen, authorities said today.

Officers responded at 2 a.m. Sunday to the report of a suspicious vehicle in the area of Tarragona Drive and Almansa Court. Following a traffic stop, a records check of the two occupants revealed that the driver, Dennis Morales of Lake Elsinore, was an early-release probationer through AB 109 on narcotics related charges. He also is a documented gang member.

The passenger in the vehicle, Byron Wauls of Lake Elsinore, was found to be on probation for vandalism. A check of the vehicle revealed it had been stolen from Lake Elsinore on Feb. 10.

Officers searching the vehicle found shaved keys, often used in auto theft; narcotics paraphernalia; a digital scale; black gloves; and a neoprene mask. Both suspects were booked at the Southwest Detention Center on the following charges:

Dennis Morales, age 26:

Taking vehicle without owner's consent
Possession of drug paraphernalia
Gang enhancement
Possession of burglary tools
Grand theft auto
Auto theft with priors
Prior prison enhancement charge
Possession of a vehicle known to be stolen

Byron Wauls, age 19:

Possession of a vehicle known to be stolen
Possession of burglary tools
Violation of probation
Gang enhancement
