Rancho Springs Medical Center in Murrieta was placed on a lockdown for about two hours Tuesday morning as a precautionary measure following what police called a "vague threat" to a staff member.

Medical center officials placed the facility on lockdown as a precaution while the Murrieta Police Department was contacted, according to Lt. Ron Driscoll. The action was the result of a male who was upset and making a threat, Driscoll said. No one was taken into custody and the lockdown was lifted about 9:30 a.m.

"It was a simple precaution," Driscoll said. "We sent a couple officers to the location and they talked with security personnel. It was determined there was no credible threat or danger at that time."

Rancho Springs Medical Center is located near Interstate 215 and Murrieta Hot Springs Road.
