A Murrieta man was booked on charges of residential burglary, petty theft and resisting arrest May 10 after a resident detained the suspect while he was breaking into a vehicle, authorities said today.

Brandon Zakowski, 27, was booked into the Southwest Detention Center. He has a lengthy criminal history, police said.

Murrieta Police officers responded to the call of the suspect seen breaking into a vehicle about 8 p.m. in the 39600 block of Sunrose Drive. He was being detained by the owner of the vehicle. During the investigation, another resident approached officers and identified the suspect as the man who had just broken into their home on Holly Leaf Lane nearby.

That resident told officers after hearing a noise in the bedroom, the resident saw the suspect inside and attempted to confront him. He fled through a window.
