Two male juveniles -- including a 12-year-old -- were arrested early this morning after a Murrieta Police officer observed the suspects tampering with a vehicle near a Murrieta intersection, authorities said.

The officer was on patrol at 12:30 a.m. in the area of California Oaks Road and Monroe Avenue when he observed three males tampering with the vehicle. When he attempted to contact them, the suspects fled on foot into a nearby apartment complex.

As other officers arrived, a perimeter was established. The 12-year-old male was found hiding in the bushes and the 17-year-old male was apprehended as he tried to leave the area. Both were arrested and transported to the Southwest Juvenile Hall.

Investigators are working on identifying the third male.

The two suspects face charges of tampering with a vehicle, willfully resisting arrest and conspiracy to commit a crime. The 17-year-old also has a parole violation. Both are residents of Murrieta.
