Incumbent Republicans Ken Calvert, Mike Morrell and Melissa Melendez positioned themselves well for the November general election by dominating the voting for their respective positions in Tuesday's California primary.

Calvert received the most votes in the battle for a seat in the House of Representatives 42nd District with 41,366 votes to 27,336 for Democrat Tim Sheridan. As the top two vote getters, they will face off in November.

In the State Senate 23rd District, Morrell received the most votes by a wide margin with 66,855 votes, or 55.9 percent. He will face second-place finisher Ronald J. O'Donnell (10,477) in November.

In the State Assembly 67th District, Melendez received the most votes with 33,365. She will face the only other candidate, Jorge Lopez (18,765), in November.

In the race for the County Supervisor seat in the Third District, incumbent Chuck Washington garnered the most votes (19,929) but didn't receive the required 50 percent of the votes cast to win the seat outright. Therefore, he must face second-place finisher Shellie Milne (15,908), a Hemet City Council member, in a run-off election in November.

Murrieta Mayor Randon Lane finished third in the race for County Supervisor with 14,142 votes.

Debbie Moon (468 votes) defeated David Fox (273) to win the Trustee Area 5 seat on the Romoland School District Board.

Menifee Mayor Scott Mann, Menifee City Council member John Denver and Murrieta City Council member Jonathan Ingram won three of the six open seats on the Republican Party Central Committee for the 67th District. Dan Hollingsworth led all candidates with 16,873 votes. Ingram finished second with 13,643 votes, followed by Robert G. Seibert (13,271), Denver (22,738), Mann (10,781) and Bonnie K. Wright (10,750).
