Drivers are reminded to slow down and drive responsibly on crowded roads over the holiday weekend.
The California Highway Patrol will conduct a Maximum Enforcement Period from 6:01 p.m. Friday through 11:59 p.m. Monday, according to a CHP news release. Officers will watch for motorists who are speeding, distracted or driving under the influence.
During the 2015 Independence Day weekend, 26 people were killed on California roadways, according to the CHP. Two of those fatalities occurred due to unsafe speed. Another 339 individuals were injured due to unsafe speed.
