The red star indicates the area where Los Alamos Road will be closed briefly for blasting on Aug. 3. At that point, Clinton Keith Road will run just a few yards north of Los Alamos.

The Murrieta Fire Department has made an announcement to residents and motorists to be aware of blasting operations taking place Aug. 3 as part of the Clinton Keith Road extension in a remote area west of French Valley.

The blasting is a necessary part of the construction of a four-lane road through hilly terrain to connect the west and east paved ends of Clinton Keith Road. According to a Fire Department news release, there will be a single blast performed between 3:30 and 4 p.m. that day. Advance audio notifications will be made with a horn sounding five minutes and one minute before the blast.

The blast will be made just north of Los Alamos Road near the Crawford Canyon Loop. Los Alamos Road will be closed for an estimated five to seven minutes, perhaps as long as 30 minutes if there are problems, at that point. Message board signs will be posted on Los Alamos Road Friday morning warning motorists of the temporary closure.

Residents in the area are being notified.
