The body of a man dead of an apparent suicide has been identified by the County Coroner's Office as a detective with the Murrieta Police Department.

The deceased has been identified as Jeffrey Ullrich, 55, of Murrieta, a longtime member of the Murrieta Police Department. According to the Coroner's report, Ullrich died at approximately 10:51 a.m. Tuesday at the Tenaja Trail Head near Santa Rosa Plateau.

According to a Sheriff's Department news release, deputies responded to that area Tuesday morning as part of a missing person's investigation in which they assisted the Murrieta Police Department. Officers searching the rural area located a man, later identified as Ullrich, who was dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Riverside Press-Enterprise reported that the FBI served a search warrant at a Murrieta residence believed to be Ullrich's home Tuesday morning and that evidence was seized. Laura Eimiller, spokesperson for the FBI's Los Angeles field office, told Murrieta 24/7 today that she could only confirm that a search warrant was served that day at a residence in Murrieta. She said details of the case have been sealed by a judge.
