Vista Murrieta High School kicks off the prep football season at home tonight and Murrieta Valley is on the road for its 2016 opener.
Vista Murrieta's Broncos will play host to a strong Madison High team from the CIF San Diego Section. The Warhawks were 8-3 last season. Vista, which is led by returning quarterback Karson Greeley, running back Cole Dubots and tight end Kade Greeley, is coming off a 12-2 season in which it reached the CIF Southern Section championship game.
The game, which begins at 7 p.m., will be the Vista Murrieta head coaching debut of David Olson, who replaces Coley Candaele at the reins.
Murrieta Valley's Nighthawks hope to continue to build on the success of a 9-3 season in 2016. They will play a 7 p.m. game at Santiago High of Corona. Sophomore quarterback Hank Bachmeier returns to lead the way for MVHS.
Murrieta Mesa opens its season next Friday at home against Montclair High.
