Get Shamrocked, one of the premier Irish music festivals in the country and an event with a worldwide draw of bands, begins tonight in Murrieta's Town Square Park.

Gates open at 4 p.m. at the back of the civic center, between Kalmia Street and Juniper Street and west of Jefferson Avenue. The first band will go on stage at 4:30 p.m. and the event will continue until 11 p.m.

On Saturday, gates open at 11 a.m., with the first band taking the stage at noon. Music will continue until 10:15 p.m.

The owners of Shamrock Irish Pub & Eatery combine with the Murrieta Chamber of Commerce and other local businesses to sponsor the event, which has become the signature event for the city and a festival that attracts the best Irish bands worldwide. Fifteen bands have been lined up this this year's event, with six major headliners over the two days.

These bands include:

-- Flatfoot 56, a Chicago-based band founded by siblings Tobin, Justin and Kyle Bawinkel.
-- Gaelic Storm, the Celtic band that performed at the steerage party scene in the film "Titanic".
-- The Young Dubliners, with a sound described by the Spokane Inlander as "like a pint of honest rock music with a shot of Irish Flair thrown in."
-- The Mahones, a major player in the Irish punk scene for 25 years.
-- The Tossers, a Celtic punk outfit from the south side of Chicago.
-- The Fighting Jamesons, who have developed a strong following on the east coast and look forward to coming west.

Get Shamrocked is predicted by some to become the Celtic Coachella of its genre. This is a 21-and-over event including Irish brews and vendor booths. For ticket information, go to www.getshamrocked.com.
