Each week, Murrieta 24/7 honors top student-athletes at Vista Murrieta High School. The coach of each varsity sport is allowed to select one athlete based on the previous week's performances or on potential shown by the athlete. Here are this week's Vista Murrieta honorees:

Linebacker Jeff Gonter has seven tackles for a loss for the football team, which is 3-1 heading into Friday's home game against Crenshaw.

Edgard Villa
took third place overall at the Mt. Carmel Invitational for the boys cross country team.

Makerita (Manu) Hall of the girls golf team had two rounds in the 40’s that were needed in wins against La Quinta and Murrieta Valley. She shot a personal best 42 at the Golf Club at Rancho California, propelling the Broncos to a league win over rival Murrieta Valley, 204-213.

Tommy Lotero, captain and goalie of the boys water polo team, has also played other positions when necessary for the Broncos. Coach Shane Anderson refers to Lotero as "an all-around team player."

Holley Persson had more than 50 digs in the girls volleyball team's first four games. "She is such a positive player and leader on the court," said her coach, Kristen Cooke. The Broncos are 7-3 overall.

These athletes will be eligible for selection as Athletes of the Month. Anyone wishing to purchase a print copy of this article may do so by emailing murrieta247info@gmail.com.
