Quarterback Karson Greeley passed for 225 yards and two touchdowns and Khalil Shakir ran for two scores Friday night to lead the Vista Murrieta High School football team to a 41-14 victory over Chaparral High.

Greeley passed 58 yards to Javelin Guidry for a touchdown and a 7-7 tie after Chaparral got on the board first. The senior QB also passed 9 yards to Zack Arceyut for a touchdown in the third quarter and ran 1 yard himself for a score in that period.

Shakir ran for touchdowns of 10 yards and 3 yards in the second quarter. Vista led 20-7 at halftime and cruised to victory.

Even in victory, Broncos coach David Olson said his team still has some work to do as the playoffs approach.

"We had a lot of penalties," he said. "They (Chaparral) moved the ball well early and we didn't adjust to it on the first drive. Then we kind of settled down after that, so I was happy with the way the defense played past the first drive.

"Coach (Rick) Hansen and the offensive staff is doing a really good job distributing the ball and a lot of guys are scoring. The skill guys have done a really nice job. Take away the penalties and there's a lot of positive things."

The Broncos played another game without running back Cole Dubots, who is out with an injury. He is expected back in time for the playoffs, Olson said.

Vista Murrieta is 6-2 and 2-1 in league play. Next week, the Broncos play at Temecula Valley.
