Khalil Shakir had 3 rushing touchdowns and a punt return for a touchdown to lead Vista Murrieta High School to a  63-13 football victory over Temecula Valley Friday night.

Shakir had a 12-yard run, 2-yard run and a 35-yard run, all for touchdowns in the first quarter alone.

On the first play of the game, Vista quarterback Karson Greeley was picked off by a Golden Bears defender, but on the very next play, the Broncos got the ball back when Temecula Valley quarterback Zachary Simon fumbled the snap. One play later, Shakir scored his first touchdown.

"He's a really special player and he's fun to watch," said coach David Olson. "He's getting better and better at running back and this is only his third game back there. His vision is just great and he really sees the field."

The Greeley twins also got involved in the scoring barrage in the first quarter when Karson hit Kade for a 31-yard pass play to make it 28-0. Cole Dubots and De'vion Sneed got the other 3 touchdowns in the opening half to give Vista a commanding lead, 56-0.

"We talked a lot about execution in the first half and reducing the penalties and moving the ball forward," said Olson about his team at halftime. "A lot of our issues have been alignment and missing our assignments.

"We brought a couple freshmen up to play big in the second half."

The freshman team is 9-0 on the season. Vista had all of its third-string players in to get some reps and some valuable playing time in the second half.

Vista Murrieta (7-2 overall and 3-1 in league) plays host to Great Oak next week.

"Honestly, we're looking at Great Oak as they cause us problems. They seem to always have our number," said Olson.
